From the age 6 until 16 young girls face intense and constant developmental challenges. These challenges are confusing, intimidating and unavoidable. It is important that girls not face these challenges alone or without guidance.
As a nurturing organization Big Sisters of London provides girls who need a role model with a sincere and caring older female who guides the girls in a direction of healthy decisions and self confidence. In this program a Big Sister volunteer becomes a role model and mentor to a young girl aged 6-16. By spending 3 - 4 hours a week together a strong friendship forms which provides stability and direction throughout the Little Sisters developing years. Over time a true friendship develops which will benefit the child…but it's also about how the friendship makes the Big Sister feel great too. At this time Big Sisters of London maintains 243 Big and Little Sister matches and on average there are 60 girls waiting for a Big Sister.
